Gwendolyn DeFilippi, acting Deputy Chief of Staff for Manpower, Personnel and Services, Headquarters Air Force, officiated the ceremony in which Maj. Gen. Christopher Craige relinquished command to Maj. Gen. Troy Dunn.

"The responsibility and authority given to a commander is what distinguishes military service from all other professions," DeFilipi said. "Commanders carry the special trust and confidence of their superiors, but more importantly, they must carry the trust and confidence of the Airmen and Guardians they are charged to lead and for whom they care."

DeFilippi praised Craige for a job well done, recapping the numerous obstacles and challenges faced while navigating a pandemic.

"As we bid a fond farewell to one great leader, we usher in a new chapter in the Air Force's Personnel Center history by welcoming another outstanding leader, Maj. Gen. Troy Dunn," she said.

Citing Dunn's leadership, breadth of experience with personnel programs and passion for caring for Airmen and Guardians, DeFilippi said there is no doubt he is the right person at the right time to lead AFPC.

"I know you will lead the AFPC family through the challenges that are sure to come, and under your leadership this team- this family- will continue to thrive as we bring the personnel operations of the Air Force into the 21st century."

In his new role, Dunn will command an organization of 2,200 military members, civilians and contractors, which supports nearly 2.3 million total force Airmen, Guardians, retirees and family members worldwide.

After assuming command, Dunn thanked the AFPC professionals for all they do every day, and for the selfless service and passionate care they provide to Airmen, Guardians and families.

"As we look forward and move toward new opportunities that will shape the future course of our Air Force, I leave you with one question; 'What type of team will we aspire to be?'," he said. "I look forward to listening to you, learning from you and leading with you. Together we will answer that all important question."

Dunn previously served as the director of Military Force Management Policy, Deputy Chief of Staff for Manpower, Personnel and Services, Headquarters Air Force.

He commissioned from the U.S. Air Force Academy in 1993 with a degree in political science, and held several leadership, staff and command positions at the base, major command, Air Staff and Joint Staff levels.

AFPC provides commanders around the world with skilled Airmen and Guardians to conduct Air Force and Joint missions. Additionally, AFPC executes programs covering the entire life cycle of military and civilian personnel for the Department of the Air Force, from accession through retirement, including readiness, growth, development and deployment.
