Air Force Personnel Center career development professionals visited Cannon July 8-10 to share helpful information pertaining to assignments.

The team hosted multiple briefings as well as one-on-one appointments to answer questions and speak about unique situations.

“These events are very career broadening,” said Master Sgt. Nicole Hicks, AFPC noncommissioned officer in charge of mission support assignments. “It gives insight on the assignments process and a peak under the tent to see how assignments are handled at the AFPC level.”

The team was invited by Air Force Special Operations Command to visit Cannon, in particular to educate Air Commandos about their assignment options.

“We have had issues with people feeling stuck: as though once they arrived Cannon, they could not leave,” said 1st Lt. Katelyn Unrath, the 27th Special Operations Force Support Squadron chief of career development. “AFPC came to settle rumors and educate members on the best ways to get assignments.”

Unrath noted Airmen enjoyed being educated particularly on assignment coding.

“There was a maintainer who believed he could not go anywhere except Cannon during his entire Air Force career, but found out there was actually more available to him than he thought,” Unrath said.

That maintainer was not the only Airman who outwardly stated that the visit provided them with valuable information.

“I think the most important take away from this event is to know what options are really out there,” said Senior Airman Matthew. “Pay attention to what you are putting on your assignment preference listing, pay attention to your codes as well as your spouse’s specialty code.”
