Air Force officials are pleased to announce Maj. Michael R. Couchman, National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency, Springfield, Virginia, Air Force District of Washington, as the Air Force nominee for the 2017 National Public Service Award.

The American Society for Public Administration and the National Academy of Public Administration established the award to honor individuals whose outstanding contributions and accomplishments allow them to be viewed as models of public service in and out of the work environment.

The NPSA recognizes individuals who exhibit the highest standards of excellence, dedication, and accomplishment over a sustained period of time and are creative and highly skilled career managers at all levels of public service.

Couchman demonstrated servant leadership in the community and the Air Force. His personally owned and operated nonprofit organization, FeedAFamily, has aided more than 150 families. In December 2015, he developed I-Act, an online charity-aiding application enabling families in need to register and receive direct local community support. Additionally, Couchman provided hand-crafted wooden art easels to terminally ill and recuperating hospitalized children and served as a Boy Scouts of America assistant den leader.

A committee from the ASPA and NAPA will convene to review all the nominations and select the final award recipients. For his efforts, Couchman will be authorized to wear the Air Force Recognition Ribbon in accordance with Air Force Instruction 36-2805, Special Trophies and Awards.
