Air Force officials have selected 21 senior civilians to participate in the 2017 Air Force Civilian Strategic Leader Program.

CSLP, the Air Force’s senior corporate career broadening program, is designed to develop multi-skilled GS-14 and GS-15 leaders by placing them in experiential assignments outside their functional area for up to three years.

“The program provides an avenue to help our civilian workforce develop corporate experience,” said Deborah Billings, Air Force Personnel Center CSLP program co-manager. “Selected candidates receive assignments in scope and responsibility that have impact across the Air Force or the Department of Defense.”

Managing the civilian workforce with transparency and investing in civilian development encourages these professionals to continue serving, enhances the Air Force and preserves the ability to fulfill its missions anytime, anywhere.

Candidates will be matched with installation level, headquarters Air Force or joint positions to enhance overall development and management of a specific segment of the civilian strategic workforce.

“Positions might include deputy director for installation support, program analyst, international security politico military planner or supervisory strategic planner,” Billings said.

CSLP has 62 worldwide positions with highly competitive selection criteria. Candidates were selected following an intense screening and assessment by an 11-member selection board which evaluated them for high quality leadership performance, progressive supervisory experience and advanced education.

“We had a record number of applications,” Billings said. “The CSLP board focused on selecting the most highly qualified Airmen previously screened by the development teams, in a fashion similar to the colonel command screen board.”

The program assists the Air Force with creating a workforce of talented professionals with the right education, training and experience.
