Air Force officials recently announced the winners of the 2016 Nuclear Deterrence Operations, and Nuclear and Missile Operations Awards.

Among the distinguished recipients was the Air Force Personnel Center’s Personnel Reliability Program Administrative Qualification Cell as the winner of the 2016 Nuclear Deterrence Operations Team of the Year.

The Nuclear Deterrence Operations Awards program is administered and overseen by the deputy chief of staff for strategic deterrence and nuclear integration, Headquarters Air Force, in accordance with Air Force Instruction 36-2870, “Nuclear Operations Awards Program.”

"This prestigious award recognizes our team of nuclear experts spanning multiple operations, personnel and medical career fields working together every day to ensure our nuclear units have reliable personnel for safe, secure and effective nuclear operations,” said Lt. Col. Pat Matak, AFPC’s Chief of PRP AQ cell.

The AFPC team distinguished itself through exemplary operations, establishing itself as the first-ever centralized work center for its function. Cell personnel processed more than 1,400 administrative qualifications for nearly 100 nuclear units in 7 major commands. With an on-time rate of 99.8 percent, more than double the previous Air Force average, the cell made a tremendous impact in minimizing one of the major causes for manning gaps at nuclear units, significantly contributing to overall workforce health in the Air Force’s primary mission.

Additionally, while the team capitalized on its members' nuclear expertise and seasoned judgment to provide high-quality recommendations to gaining unit certifying officials, its personnel concurrently instituted significant process improvements to achieve those results using only half the manpower previously devoted to the AQ function across the Air Force.

“This recognition speaks to not only the caliber of the cell team members and their superior performance, but also that of our mission partners across the nuclear enterprise,” said Mike Morris, AFPC’s Director of Nuclear Integration. “We could not be more proud to contribute to the relentless strengthening of the Air Force’s nuclear team.”
