Promotion to Senior Airman for Prior Service Members
Enlisted Promotions

Additional Guidance

Promotion to the rank of airman and airman first class will be based on the normal time in grade (TIG) requirements for promotion according to AFI 36-2502, Airman Promotion/Demotion Programs, Paragraph 2.1. A1C returned to active duty with no credit to their date of rank (DOR) or effective date will be eligible for senior airmen after 28 months TIG. Additionally, they will be eligible for SrA below-the-zone (BTZ) consideration.

A1C who receive an adjusted DOR due to previous service will be eligible for SrA after 28 months TIG but must also have one year on extended active duty. These airmen will not be eligible for SrA BTZ. This guidance also applies to Reserve Officer Training Corps and United States Air Force Academy Cadet dis-enrollees.
