Overview

The Air Force has approved renewal and implementation of the Critical Skills Retention Bonus (CSRB) for the 1C2XX - Combat Control. Effective Nov. 23, 2015, the 1C2XX is authorized a CSRB for MSgt - CMSgt with at least 19 years of service (YOS), but not more than 28.0 YOS.

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Airmen must be in Combat Control (1C2XX) Air Force Specialty

  • Must be in pay grade of MSgt (E-7) or above

  • Airmen must have completed at least 19 YOS, but not more than 28.0 YOS and be otherwise eligible to reenlist in accordance with (IAW) AFI 36-2606, Reenlistment in the United States Air Force

  • Airmen may execute a CSRB reenlistment option at any time during their enlistment. Remaining obligated service is waived as long as they are not currently serving on a CSRB or Selective Reenlistment Bonus (SRB) contract. Airmen are authorized an exception to policy in paragraphs E1.4.4.4.4 and E1.4.7.3 of the Department of Defense Instruction 1304.29 allowing a service member to receive a combined total of CSRB and SRB payments in excess of $200,000 for a career. Although Airmen may receive more than one CSRB over a career, Airmen may not receive more than $200,000 in total CSRB payments. Note: Airmen are allowed to project reenlistment up to six months in advance

  • CSRB contracts of up to five years will be paid to MSgts - CMSgts between 19 - 28 YOS as indicated in paragraph six below. MSgts who accept a CSRB at 19 YOS or more may have their High Year Tenure (HYT) adjusted up to 25 YOS when required. SMSgts who accept a CSRB at 19 YOS or more may have their HYT adjusted up to 28 YOS when required. The minimum contract term is two years

  • No CSRB contract may extend Airmen's service obligation beyond their mandatory/adjusted HYT date or 30 years of active duty, whichever is less. No CSRB contract shall be entered into after three years from Nov. 13, 2015

  • Airmen must have a service-directed reason IAW AFI 36-2606, Table 6.1 to extend; the extension must be for 24 months or more. Airmen may not extend for a partial year (i.e., if Airmen extend 23 months or less, they are not eligible for the CSRB. Likewise, if Airmen extend 26 months, the entitlement will be paid for 24 months only). Airmen may elect to extend for a longer period even though less retainability is required in order to qualify for this CSRB

  • Airmen will serve in the CSRB skill and incur an Active Duty Service Commitment (ADSC) for the full period of the reenlistment or extension contract agreement IAW the eligibility criteria stated above. The ADSC will be based on the contract term

The contract amounts outlined below are payable at Airmen's option in a lump sum or in installments (50 percent initial payment and equal annual installments on anniversary date).
