Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance

Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (SGLI) is a program of low cost group life insurance for servicemembers on active duty, ready reservists, members of the National Guard, cadets in the Air Force Academy, and members of the Reserve Officer Training Corps.

SOES is the Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (SGLI) On-Line Enrollment System. It replaces the paper-based SGLI/Family SGLI (FSGLI) enrollment, maintains elections and beneficiary information, and provides 24/7 self-service access to SGLI information. SGLI provides insurance coverage to eligible members of the active and reserve components. SOES centralizes SGLI/FSGLI data into one authoritative system capable of providing consistent SGLI/FSGLI information to members and their leadership.

SOES is available through DMDC’s milConnect web application.  After signing in, click on “SOES” under the “Benefits” tab.

The maximum amount of SGLI coverage you may have is $400,000. You may elect to be insured for lesser amounts in increments of $50,000. If you choose to decline or reduce your SGLI coverage, you must log into the Servicemember's Online Election System (SOES) via milConnect. If you have the maximum amount of SGLI, you have the right to retain any other Government or private insurance. However, you may not have more than $400,000 of combined SGLI and VGLI coverage.

For additional information on the Service members' Group Life Insurance, please visit the VA Website.

Veterans’ Group Life Insurance (VGLI) is a program that allows you to continue life insurance coverage after you separate from service.

VGLI provides lifetime coverage as long as you pay the premiums. You may enroll for a maximum amount of coverage that is equal to the amount of Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (SGLI) coverage you had when you separated from service. Lesser amounts of coverage are also available in increments of $10,000.

Once enrolled in VGLI, you will have the opportunity to increase your coverage by $25,000 every five years up to the legislated maximum of $400,000, until age 60. No proof of good health is required.

You have 1 year and 120 days from your date of separation to apply for VGLI. If you apply for coverage within 240 days of your date of separation, you will not need to answer health questions.

For more information on VGLI, please visit the VA Website.

The Federal Employees' Group Life Insurance (FEGLI) Program currently covers over four million federal employees and retirees, as well as many of their family members.  The Office of Federal Employees' Group Life Insurance (OFEGLI), which is a private entity that has a contract with the federal government, processes and pays claims under the FEGLI Program.  For more information on:

SNCO PROMOTION BOARD PROCESS UPDATE Visit our Enlisted Promotions page for FOUR NEW, separate, downloadable info-graphics describing the SNCO promotion board process at https://www.afpc.af.mil/Promotion/Enlisted-Promotions/! Collect all FOUR! As announced in January 2019, the Air Force will use a promotion board process similar to the board process used by officers effective with the 2019E9/CMSgt promotion cycle, by removing the requirement for senior non-commissioned officers to test for promotion. Promotion boards will continue to score records using the current scoring process as well as reviewing the last five years’ of evaluations and all awards and decorations. Decoration points will no longer be used because the board will be considering all decorations during its review and scoring records accordingly. “We trust this board process will continue to give senior leaders and commanders the greatest level of confidence that the right individuals are being selected for promotion to the top enlisted ranks.” -- Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force Kaleth O. Wright
“Our officers who serve in formal instructor and recruiting positions are directly responsible for producing the next generation of Airmen.” -- Lt. Gen. Brian Kelly, Deputy Chief of Staff for Manpower, Personnel and Services. The release of the candidate lists is the next significant milestone in the Air Force’s initiative to transform the officer talent management process used to fill education, training and recruiting positions. #AFPC #AirForce #AFWN
