Air Force nominees will compete with representatives from the other services for the chance to become an astronaut candidate and serve with NASA. Applications must be postmarked for the Air Force Personnel Center by Feb. 25.

The Air Force astronaut nomination selection board convenes here May 13-16 to select nominees. An Air Force medical screening panel will then determine whether or not the nominees meet NASA physical standards.

These are just some of the accolades that helped John Beckett, the Air Force's Survivor Assistance Program manager at the Pentagon, earn the first 2007 Roger M. Blanchard Memorial Award for Character and Innovation.

After meeting the Dec. 17 deadline, Phase II eligibles must next choose an Air Force specialty code from a list of available AFSCs and submit a completed retraining application by Jan. 31.

Any Airman identified as vulnerable for retraining and who fails to submit the initial retraining application by this date will be determined to have officially declined retraining and will be separated from the Air Force on their current date of separation.

The board will evaluate active-duty line officers in overage career fields in the 2005 accession year group, except for officers in the intelligence, security forces, civil engineer, and public affairs career fields.

Retention recommendation forms (RRFs) must be completed for all board eligible officers with more than two years extended active duty as of March 31, 2008, and less than 15 years total active federal service as of Aug. 31, 2008. The RRF will include senior rater recommendations to retain or separate, and must be forwarded to AFPC no later than Feb. 4.

Federal Employees Health Benefits
Premiums for 2008 will rise an average of 2 percent for the second consecutive year. There are 283 plan choices in 2008, one less than in 2007; 13 plans dropped out and 12 new plans are joining. The number of high deductible health plans is increasing to 32, up from 29 in 2007.
