CONTROL AFSC VERIFICATION FOR PROMOTION CONSIDERATION

Airmen being considered for promotion compete for promotion in their Control Air Force Specialty Code (CAFSC) held as of the Promotion Eligibility Cutoff Date (PECD). If Specialty Knowledge Test (SKT) exempt, Airmen will compete for promotion in one of two promotion Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC), one for non-chronic critical skills (00XXX) and another for chronic critical skills (00XXXX). When there is not an SKT for the specialty, then all Airmen in that AFSC complete for promotion together, regardless of their training status (i.e., retraining, prior service, etc.).

Exception: Airmen eligible for promotion to MSgt will compete in their CAFSC as of PECD for Phase II. For example, a 3S0X1 (Personnel) retraining into the 6C0X1 (Contracting) career field whose Training Status Code and date initially entered retraining (DIERT) identify them as Promotion Fitness Exam (PFE) only will hurdle with the 00XXX AFSC in phase I but be boarded with the 6C0X1 AFSC for phase II.

Note: Air Staff reviews and provides Chronic Critical Skills (CCS) allocations for every promotion cycle. Only SSgts eligible for TSgt and SrA eligible for SSgt use the 00XXXX (CCS) AFSC. The 00XXXX AFSC will only reflect on Weighted Airman Promotion System scores notices since those CCS allocations are identified during the selection process. Grades that meet an evaluation board have the CCS allocations added to their particular AFSC and re-trainees are boarded in their retraining AFSC.

It is imperative all CAFSCs are verified prior to testing.

CAFSC RULES

Airman with a permanent change of assignment (PCA) locally, the effective date of the CAFSC is the date assigned to the new AFSC position number.

Airman with a permanent change of station (PCS) to another base, the effective date of the CAFSC is the date departed last duty station.

Airman retraining through a formal school and special duty, the CAFSC effective date is the date departed the current duty station temporary duty (TDY) to accomplish required training (either en route to new duty station or when returning to present duty station).

If there is not a PCS, PCA or formal training, the CAFSC will be changed when assigned duty. Do not change the CAFSC prior to date of departure according to AFI 36-2101, Classifying Military Personnel (Officer and Enlisted), Table 3.9, Note 2.
