If you are purchasing a new home and considering a Veterans Administration (VA) Home Loan, you may be required to produce a letter for the VA to verify your service information. This information may be obtained on-line for all military personnel. Specific information on eligibility requirements, application instructions, and a list of required document are provided in the information/links below.
Please note, that the eligibility and documentation requirements vary based on your specific Air Force component in which you are a member.
ESTABLISHING ELIGIBILITY
To understand the VA Home Loan eligibility requirements, please review the VA Home Loan website using the link provided below under ‘Related Resources.' After establishing that you are eligible, you will need a Certificate of Eligibility (COE).
The COE verifies to the lender that you qualify for a VA-backed loan. The website page describes the evidence you submit to verify your eligibility for a VA Home Loan and how to submit the evidence and obtain a COE.
ACTIVE-DUTY PERSONNEL
To obtain your letter, access the virtual Military Personnel Flight (vMPF) and navigate to your Proof of Service letter using the steps below:
Click 'Self-Service Actions'
Click 'Personal Data'
Click 'Proof of Service Letter'
Click 'Print this Page'
AIR NATIONAL GUARD OR AIR FORCE RESERVE PERSONNEL
To obtain your letter, access the virtual Personnel Center-Guard/Reserve application. Once you are in the application, scroll to the bottom and select Veterans’ Administration (VA) Home Loan Letter.
VETERANS
Please access the VA Home Loan Guaranty and COE websites below for detailed information and requirements. Veterans are encouraged to ask their lenders about this method of obtaining a COE.
SURVIVING SPOUSES
Spouses must apply by mail using VA Form 26-1817, Request for Determination of Loan Guaranty Eligibility - Unmarried Surviving Spouses. If your Veteran spouse died after service, VA must determine that the death was due to a service-connected disability. Please allow 2-3 months for this process unless you know that the decision on service-connected death has already been made.
