Airmen participate in 2014 Army Warrior Trials Published June 10, 2014 Warrior Transition Command Alexandria, VA - -- Thirty-nine Airmen were among the 100-plus wounded, ill and injured American service members and veterans who participated in practice training sessions for the 2014 Army Warrior Trials June 9 at the U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y. The Airmen will compete in the Warrior Transition Command-hosted Army Warrior trials June 15-20. The Army Warrior Trials include athletes from the Army, Marines and Air Force who will face off in archery, basketball, cycling, track and field, swimming, shooting, sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball. Participants in the trials include athletes with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injuries, visual impairment, serious illnesses and amputations. According to Thomas Webb, Deputy to the Commander, Warrior Transition Command, the Army Trials represent something much bigger than a competition. "Adaptive reconditioning and sports play a significant role in the Army's holistic approach to recovery and transition for these soldiers," he said. "Warrior Trials allow these soldiers and veterans to set goals and to meet them. We believe events of this type provide a sense of purpose, community, and improve their outlook and quality of life." Following the Army Trials, 40 athletes will be selected to represent Team Army at the 2014 Warrior Games, Sept. 28-Oct 4, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
