The Air Force’s Personnel Center is comprised of seven directorates, the Air Force Selection Board Secretariat and Special Staff, each managing key programs in support of Department of the Air Force personnel operations around the globe. AFPC strives to provide agile and responsive support and solutions to customers around the globe, including military and civilian Airmen and Guardians, families and retirees.
The Director of Staff (DS) provides worldwide customer support for personnel data through the production, detailed analysis and delivery of reports and data sets on the effectiveness and output of personnel programs. In addition to delivering Enterprise Information Management policy and guidance, the Directorate of Staff manages and approves attitude and opinion surveys administered to Department of the Air Force members providing oversight to ensure surveys meet mission requirements and fulfill the information needs of functional authorities.
The Directorate for Technology and Information (DP0) enables AFPC's efficient execution of personnel programs through sustainment of human resource information systems and digital transformation. The directorate coordinates and manages publication of HR knowledge and information across all appropriate electronic mediums to ensure delivery of clear, concise, timely, and useful HR knowledge to all Airmen, Guardians and institutional customers across the enterprise. Additionally, the directorate collaborates with the other AFPC directorates to work Talent Management initiatives for the Department of the Air Force.
The Directorate of Personnel Support (DP1) provides direct personnel services and support to Joint and Department of the Air Force personnel, commanders, Airmen, Guardians, civilian employees and their families. The directorate operates the Total Force Service Center, a 24/7, 361 days per year customer service center, which provides the full spectrum of Personnel Services support through knowledge management, customer contact, transactional service, and field agency support elements in a responsive and interactive manner. Additionally, the directorate provides a collaborative environment within AFPC to meet emerging requirements.
The Directorate for Personnel Operations (DP2) is divided into two entities with each focused on military and civilian operations, respectively. The directorate executes policies and procedures to establish standards for Air Force and Space Force military and civilian personnel programs across the entire Talent Management spectrum. Its personnel apply functional expertise, judgment and analysis to policy and guidance and to complete complex tasks directly requested by higher-level external customers (e.g. MAJCOM/A1s and commanders), or those the Total Force Service Center cannot accomplish. These subject matter experts meet commander requirements across the Department of the Air Force by managing civilian and military talent management that includes assignment opportunities and developmental education.
The Directorate for Personnel Programs (DP3) interprets and implements policies; develops guidance, standards and processes; coordinates and deploy standards, systems, programs, procedures and actions for the Department’s personnel programs portfolio. The directorate is AFPC’s liaison to both Air and Space Forces and their components, the Department of Defense and its agencies, the Federal Government, and industry. Serving as the end-to-end process owner for all personnel programs executed by AFPC, the directorate collaborates with DP0, DP1, and DP2, to work Talent Management initiatives across the enterprise.
The Directorate of Airman and Family Care (DPF) provides care and operational support to active duty, Reserve, Guard, civilians, retirees and their respective families. The directorate operates the Air Force Casualty and Wounded Warrior programs providing a full spectrum of care for Airmen, Guardians and families who have sacrificed for the nation. Through these programs, AFPC provides notification, benefits and entitlements, and case management support for wounded, ill or injured Airmen, Guardians, families and caregivers. The Air Force Gold Star Family Member Program, which maintains relationships between the families of fallen service members and local installations, also operates in this directorate. The directorate orchestrates formal and informal physical evaluation boards, supporting the Integrated Disability Evaluation System to ensure Airmen and Guardians are fit to continue service, in addition to managing medical continuation for Air National Guard or Reserve members injured while on active duty.
The Directorate of Personnel Pay (DPP) manages the transition to the Air Force Integrated Personnel and Pay System (AFIPPS). AFIPPS will integrate personnel and pay processes for Airmen across the Total Force and improve Airmen’s access to personnel data and self-service capabilities. The DPP also manages an Operating Location at the Defense Finance and Accounting Service in Indianapolis, Indiana, comprised of civilian experts who manage pay-affecting personnel transactions.
In addition, AFPC is the home of the U.S. Air Force Selection Board Secretariat that conducts approximately 200 boards per year for both the Air Force and Space Force. These include all general officer promotion and federal recognition boards; Active Duty officer promotion and continuation boards; officer special selection boards and special selection review boards; enlisted promotion boards for sergeant through chief master sergeant (Space Force) and master sergeant through chief master sergeant (Air Force); and other boards as directed by the Secretary of the Air Force. For promotion and evaluation boards, board members evaluate more than 85,000 records on an annual basis to determine which officers and senior noncommissioned officers are best qualified to become the Department of the Air Force’s next generation of leadership.
