Medical officers will be considered for command when five medical corps boards convene in May and June, Air Force Personnel Center officials said.

Although the first board is not scheduled until mid- to late-May, commander or equivalent-endorsed statements of intent must arrive at AFPC by April 26, so interested officers should not delay, said Master Sgt. Shawna Bynum, AFPC medical accessions and personnel program manager.

All eligible officers will receive an email from AFPC requiring a response that will inform action officers here whether or not the officers want to be considered for command. Officers who do not want to be considered are also required to respond, said Bynum.

To be eligible, applicants must be lieutenant colonels or lieutenant colonel-selects who have been on station since Sept. 1, 2012 or earlier, said Bynum. In addition, aerospace medicine residents and senior developmental education in-residence students who graduate in 2014 may apply.

"Other students and residents, and lieutenant colonels in the promotion zone to meet a 2013 promotion board cannot apply this year," Bynum said. "Criteria and restrictions may vary, depending on the corps, so interested officers should carefully review the published criteria on the Medical Service Knowledge Exchange."

Bynum encourages individuals to subscribe to the knowledge exchange site at https://kx.afms.mil/kxweb/join.do to get CY14 squadron command process updates.
