The Air Force Personnel Center kicked off the Combined Federal Campaign fund drive this week when Dr. Todd Fore, AFPC executive director and Chief Master Sgt. Ruben Gonzalez, command chief, pledged their financial support for the campaign, focused this year on the theme "Supporting a Caring Community."

"This year's theme speaks to the most basic function of AFPC," said Dr. Fore.

"Our role professionally - and personally - is to support our teammates and our country," he added. "Professionally, we put the right people in the right place at the right time. Personally, our people are consistently in the right place at the right time to help others in need."

The command chief agrees. "Supporting CFC is a great way to make an impact with our agency partners that do so much for the communities that we live in," said the Chief, who recently accepted the AFPC position. "Involvement via the CFC is the key to making a difference in other's lives."

Established in 1961 by President John F. Kennedy, CFC is celebrating 50 years of supporting America's needs.

"The annual campaign allows federal employees to donate to charitable organizations through a convenient, efficient, reliable contribution method," said Maj. Abraham Salomon, AFPC point of contact. "We can have our donation automatically deducted every month in small, manageable amounts, or we can give however much we want to the organization of our choice in one up-front donation. It is all about what best meets our budget needs."

Every participating organization has donation goals, and keyworkers organize informational and fundraising events to help units achieve their goals. For example, the AFPC 2011 goal is $332,940.

"Last year we raised $329,644," said the major, "and we have until Oct. 28 to manage this campaign, so we look forward to meeting this year's goal as well."

Federal employees and military members who are interested in making contributions via CFC can contact their unit keyworker, or go to the CFC page (www.opm.gov/cfc/) and use the campaign locator to find an office or point of contact near them.
