Air Force officials have selected the winners of the 2010 Government Employees Insurance Company Public Service Awards.

The GEICO Public Service Awards were established in 1980 to recognize the contributions of government employees.

Roger Hayes from Robins AFB, Ga., is the winner in the traffic safety and accident prevention category. As the chief of the Robins AFB safety office, Mr. Hayes led the safety program for the largest industrial complex in the state, reducing lost-time mishaps by 50 percent in fiscal 2010 and implementing numerous industrial and traffic safety programs.

Scott Olson from Pope AFB, N.C., is the winner in the physical rehabilitation category. As the physician assistant of the 24th Special Tactics Squadron, Mr. Olson took control of a medical scene after a catastrophic parachuting injury. He coordinated medical consultations, rehabilitation therapies, air medical evacuations and provided rehabilitative care resulting in the best possible outcome for his patient.

The awards were presented to the recipients in May during an awards ceremony at the National Geographic Museum in Washington, D.C.
