Nominations open for civilian humanitarian award

Awards and decorations officials at the Air Force Personnel Center here are seeking nominations for the 2010 Zachary and Elizabeth Fisher Distinguished Civilian Humanitarian Award.

This award is presented annually to an individual or organization that has demonstrated exceptional patriotism, generosity, and selfless dedication to the members of the United States armed forces and their families through an outstanding humanitarian act or service.

Nominee criteria:
    a. Individuals or organizations that are not employed by the Department of Defense and its components, or who were not employed during the period for which the award is recommended. 
    b. Individuals or organizations not having a commercial or profit-making relationship with the DOD or with a DOD component.
    c. Individuals or organizations which have a commercial or profit-making relationship with the DOD, or with a DOD component, may be eligible if it can be shown that the contribution is substantially beyond that specified or implied within the terms of the contract that established the relationship, and the recognition is clearly in the public interest.

Organizations and base-level personnel must contact their major command, field operating agency, direct reporting unit or MAJCOM equivalent for applicable suspense dates and for additional information regarding nomination procedures.

Each MAJCOM, FOA, or DRU may submit one nomination for service performed in 2009. Completed nomination packages must be sent to AFPC by April 16, 2010.
