AFSVA announces 2009 Air Force Club Membership scholarship winners

Twenty-five individuals were recently selected to receive $1,000 scholarships through the Air Force Services Club Membership Scholarship Program. Club members and their families were given the opportunity to submit a 500-word essay on "The High Cost of Freedom." A total of 154 entries were submitted to the Headquarters, Air Force Service Agency for Air Force-level consideration.

The 2009 scholarship winners are:

5. Harry Lang, son of Robert G. Lang Jr., Hanscom AFB, Mass.
6. Thuy Ngo, spouse of William Nink, Kadena AB, Japan
7. Todd D. Riddle, club member, Whiteman AFB, Mont.
8. Jan Marie Turner, daughter of Timothy Turner, Robins AFB, Ga.
9. Jacquelene A. Valentino-Samberg, daughter of Arnold Samberg, Osan AB, Korea
10. Rebecca Jarrett, club member, Misawa AB, Japan

23. Ashley Asel, daughter of Thomas Asel, Patrick AFB, Fla.
24. Cathy L. Francis, spouse of Mitchell J. Francis, Offutt AFB, Neb.
25. Rachel Pace, daughter of David Pace, Keesler AFB, Miss.

According to Fred McKenney, Air Force Services Agency Food and Beverage Division chief, this is the 13th consecutive year Air Force clubs have hosted this scholarship essay contest.

"Air Force clubs continue to help their members and their families with the cost of higher education," said Mr. McKenney. "The quality of this year's essays was outstanding."

The scholarships are funded by Air Force Services, Chase Bank and the Coca-Cola Company (No federal endorsement of sponsors intended).
