Pararescueman receives 2008 Pitsenbarger Award for lifesaving actions

  • Published
The Air Force Sergeants Association has named Tech. Sgt. Davide Keaton, an Air Force pararescueman at Pope Air Force Base, N.C., as its 2008 Pitsenbarger Award recipient.

AFSA's Pitsenbarger Award annually recognizes Air Force enlisted members who perform heroic acts, on or off duty, that result in saving a life or preventing serious injury.

On Oct. 22, 2007, while serving a tour in Afghanistan, Sergeant Keaton employed his medical expertise and was directly responsible for saving the lives of five critically wounded Afghan noncombatants. At great personal risk, he courageously maneuvered under a barrage of gunfire to render lifesaving care to three children and two women who were critically wounded after being used as human shields by enemy combatants.

The award will be presented to Sergeant Keaton by AFSA at the Air Force Honors banquet, Aug. 27, in San Antonio, Texas.
