McClain takes the reins of AFPC

RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas --  Maj. Gen. K.C. McClain became the Air Force Personnel Center's 23rd commander during a change of command ceremony here today. The 30-year career Airman succeeds Maj. Gen. Anthony F. Przybyslawski.

"Although the Air Force has changed tremendously in the past 30 years, the one thing that hasn't changed is the professionalism and can-do attitude of Airmen. Personnelists across the Air Force exemplify that professionalism and attitude every day," said General McClain in a recent interview.

Lt. Gen. Richard Newton, III, deputy chief of staff for manpower and personnel, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Washington, D.C., presided over the ceremony at Hangar 4 here. General McClain previously served as the director of force management policy, deputy chief of staff for manpower and personnel at the Pentagon.

"Having been at Air Staff helping shape personnel policy, it's a natural fit to now become the commander responsible for implementing the programs under that policy," said the general.

The new commander is a career personnel officer. She returns to Randolph AFB on her third assignment here. While here in the early 1990s, she was an assignment team chief, and then the executive officer through three commander rotations.

"I learned a great deal from each of them, and their advice continues to inspire me. I'm proud to be following them as the Center commander," said the general.

General McClain has served in a variety of assignments to include commanding the Air Reserve Personnel Center in Denver, Colo., the 17th Training Wing at Goodfellow AFB, Texas and 314th Support Group at Little Rock AFB, Arkansas. She also served as director of personnel, U.S. Pacific Command, at Camp H.M. Smith, Hawaii.

General McClain will hit the ground running, meeting with AFPC Airmen at one of two scheduled commander's calls Friday at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. at the base theater.

She typifies her leadership as inclusive, understanding that tapping the knowledge and skills of everyone in an organization is the key to an organization achieving its goals. "I look forward to working with the outstanding professionals of AFPC to build on the strong foundation that Major General Przybyslawski has laid," said General McClain.

General Przybyslawski, who had commanded the center since July 2004, moves on to become the director of operations for Air Education and Training Command.
