Air Force announces nominees for 2016 AFA Aerospace Awards

The Air Force has selected its nominees to compete for the 2016 Air Force Association Aerospace Awards.

The Aerospace awards recognize the most outstanding contributions to national defense and are open to all Air Force military members, Department of the Air Force civilians, units or group of individuals.

The specific category and respective nominees are:

Theodore Von Karman Award - for contributions in the field of science and engineering relating to aerospace activity.

- AF Tactical Exploitation of National Capabilities, Air Combat Command
- Transport Isolation System Team, Air Mobility Command
- Capt. Michael Peeples, Air Force Space Command

David C. Schilling Award - for contributions in the field of flight in the atmosphere or space.

- 301st/95th Fighter Squadron, Air Force Reserve Command
- 318th Special Operations Squadron, Air Force Special Operations Command
- 336th Fighter Squadron, Air Combat Command

Gill Robb Wilson Award - for contributions in the field of arts and letters covering a wide range of activities such as writing, speaking, media relations, sculpting or painting.

- 40th Flight Test Squadron Aerial Photography Flight, Air Force Materiel Command
- 22nd Air Refueling Wing Public Affairs, Air Mobility Command

Citation of Honor - for contributions significantly exceeding standard performance.

- 15th Reconnaissance Squadron, Air Combat Command
- 19th Space Operations Squadron, Air Force Reserve Command
- 24th Expeditionary Field Investigations, Air Force Office of Special Investigations
- 33rd Special Operations Squadron, Air Force Special Operations Command
- 37th Bomb Squadron, Air Force Global Strike Command
- 39th Security Forces Squadron, U.S. Air Forces in Europe
- 321st Contingency Response Squadron, Air Mobility Command
- Aerospace Data Facility-SW Space Operations Squadron, Air Force Global Strike Command
- Defense Institute for Medical Operations Personnel, Air Force Medical Support Agency
- Maj. Michael Pochert, Air Force District of Washington

Winners will be named at the 2016 AFA Air & Space Conference and Technology Exposition this fall.
