Officer, Sr NCO selection records: Representing you to the promotion board Published March 16, 2007 By 071106 RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- With the Lieutenant Colonel Selection Board convening in late November and the Selective Early Retirement Board and senior master sergeant board coming up in early 2007, eligible officers and senior NCOs must ensure their selection records are up to date when meeting these boards. The selection record is probably the single most important record in an Air Force member's career, not the brown unit personnel record group folder at the military personnel flight as most people think. Board members assess an individual's promotion potential based only on information contained in the selection record. It is each individual's responsibility to ensure that record is correct. All officers and senior NCOs should review their records to ensure their performance reports and decorations are on file with the Selection Board Secretariat. Even if documents are reflected in the virtual Military Personnel Flight and the Military Personnel Data System, individuals should confirm hardcopies are in their selection record. Officers and senior NCOs can request a copy of their board secretariat record on file at AFPC, based on two categories of requests: "As Is" and "As Met." Members may request one "As Is" copy and one "As Met" copy of their selection record within a consecutive 12-month period. To request a copy, members use the Selection Record Request Worksheet on the board secretariat website. The member must scan and e-mail the completed worksheet to Records.Review@randolph.af.mil, or fax it to DSN 665-2693 or commercial (210) 565-2693. Selection records will only be forwarded to an authorized military e-mail account. "It is ultimately every Air Force member's responsibility to keep their selection record up to date," said Col. Karl Shawhan, the chief of the Selection Board Secretariat. "Remember, your record represents you to the promotion board."
