‘My Biz’ offers certifications, licenses updating for civilians

A tab in "My Biz" allows civilian employees to update and view their completed certifications and licenses through the self-service module in the Defense Civilian Personnel Data System.

"We always look for ways to improve the customer experience and one way to do that is by providing immediate results," said Randy Yates at the Air Force Personnel Center. "By making this function a Web-based, self-service capability, employees can see the updated information in their personnel records instantaneously, and on their career brief the following day."

Streamlining and automating these updates also saves employees valuable time by eliminating the need to fax, e-mail or deliver completed certificates and licenses to the Air Force Manpower Agency, the local civilian personnel section or the training section. However, employees will only be able to edit entries they input. Corrections to entries input by AFMA, the CPF, or the training section require the employee to submit an OF-612.

When employees view their certification and license information in My Biz, they will see a column titled "Certifications/Licenses Other Update Source." Employee updates to their certificates and licenses are indicated by an "S" for "Self-Certified" in this column. If there is a legal or regulatory requirement to verify the entry, CPS will request documentation and change the entry to "V" for "Verified."

Supervisors may contact CPS if they have questions regarding self-certified entries.

Officials strongly encourage users to review their inputs for accuracy before submitting them. Knowingly entering false or misleading information may be cause for disciplinary action up to and including removal.

This timely and customer-focused initiative is similar to the self-service education update initiative that launched in August 2008 and the training records update that launched in July 2009.

Civilian employees retain the right to provide official documentation directly to the local CPS or training office for input and verification.
