Air Force announces aerospace award winners

Air Force officials announced today the winners of the 2009 Air Force Association National Aerospace and Specialty Awards.

The awards recognize professional excellence and contributions to national defense.

The Theodore von Karman Award winner for most outstanding contribution in the field of science and engineering is the Laser Joint Direct Attack Munition Team at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla.

The Gill Robb Wilson Award winner for most outstanding contribution in the field of arts and letters is the U.S. Air Force Band at Bolling AFB, D.C.

In addition, five recipients are the winners of the AFA's Citation of Honor for most outstanding contribution by an individual or organization to the development of aerospace power for the betterment of mankind:

- 4th Air Support Operations Group, Heidelberg, Germany
- 11th Intelligence Squadron, Hurlburt Field, Fla.
- 703rd Aeronautical Systems Group, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio
- Enterprise Operations Squadron, Chantilly, Va.
- 563rd Rescue Group, Davis-Monthan AFB, Ariz.

The awards will be presented to the recipients during the AFA's Air & Space Conference and Technology Exposition this month in Washington, D.C.
