Air Force officials announced the 305th Aerial Port Squadron, Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, New Jersey, as the winner of the 2016 Verne Orr Award.

This Air Force Association award recognizes a Total Force Air Force unit that makes the most effective use of its human resources.

During the award period, the 305th APS expertly moved 78,000 tons of cargo, airlifted more than 190,000 passengers and surpassed standards by ensuring 99 percent of 9,000 airlift missions launched on-time. The squadron accomplished numerous inter-governmental missions, joint operations, exercises and humanitarian relief efforts, furthering combat capability and defense readiness for U.S. forces for nine Combatant Commands.

All Air Force units and organizations are eligible for the award, regardless of size. The accomplishments of the unit are mission-oriented and focus on how the unit excels in its use of people to achieve its full potential and accomplish the mission.

The AFA will present the award during its Air & Space Conference and Technology Exposition this September in Washington, D.C.
