Air Force officer final DoD winner of 67th Annual Arthur S. Flemming Award

JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas -- Air Force officials announced that Maj. Christopher Jefferson of the National Reconnaissance Office, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station, Florida, is the Department of Defense 67th Annual Arthur S. Flemming Award final winner.

The award, sponsored by George Washington University and the Arthur S. Flemming Awards Commission, honors outstanding federal employees who have made significant and extraordinary contributions to the federal government in the categories of leadership and or management; legal achievement; social science, clinical trials and translational research; applied science and engineering; and basic science. Jefferson was the Air Force nominee for the leadership and/or management category.

Jefferson spearheaded all National Reconnaissance Office satellite vehicle processing, integration, launch operations and launch base infrastructure readiness, and led his team through declaration and initialization of full operational capability for the Eastern Processing Facility, the world's largest spacecraft processing facility.

The award's purpose is fourfold:  to recognize outstanding and meritorious achievement while working for the federal government; to encourage the highest standards of performance in the federal service; to enhance appreciation of our form of government and the opportunities and responsibilities it presents; and to attract outstanding individuals to a career in federal service.

Jefferson was selected as the final winner by the Arthur S. Flemming Awards Commission of Judges and will be honored by the Commission at George Washington University on June 6.
