Officials announce 2017 AFA Aerospace Award winners

The Air Force Association awards committee announced the final recipients of the 2017 National Aerospace and Specialty Awards. 

The AFA is an independent, nonprofit, civilian education organization that promotes understanding of aerospace power and the pivotal role it plays in the security of this nation.

 

This award program recognizes the most outstanding contribution to national defense in the fields of science and engineering relating to aerospace activity; flight in the atmosphere or space; arts and letters, covering a wide range of activities including writing, speaking, media relations, sculpting or painting; and for significantly exceeding standard performance.

 

The specific category and respective winners are as follows:

 

Theodore Von Karman Award (most outstanding performance in the field of science and engineering):  Capt Eric J. Robinson, Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, Hawaii.

 

David C. Schilling Award (most outstanding contribution to national defense in the field of manned flight):  492nd Fighter Squadron, Royal Air Force Lakenheath, United Kingdom.

 

Gill Robb Wilson Award (most outstanding performance in the field of arts and letters): 1st Combat Camera Squadron, Joint Base Charleston, South Carolina.

 

Citation of Honor (most outstanding contribution by an individual or organization to the development of aerospace power for the betterment of mankind): 17th Special Tactics Squadron, Fort Benning, Georgia; 75th Aircraft Maintenance Unit, Moody Air Force Base, Georgia; and the Information Exploitation Squadron, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.

 

The winners are authorized wear of the Air Force Recognition Ribbon.
