More than 4,000 total force Airmen and their families in Colorado may have been affected by a recent wildfire which started June 11, northeast of Colorado Springs, Colo., Air Force Personnel Center officials said.

To ensure Airmen and their families are accounted for and have access to assistance, AFPC has activated the Air Force Personnel Accountability and Assessment System.

AFPAAS is a web-based application used to account, access, manage and monitor the recovery process for personnel and their families.

"Air Force Space Command directed 100 percent accountability of all personnel residing in the impacted area," said Brian Angell, AFPC personnel readiness chief. "All Airmen must account for themselves and for their family members. If Airmen are unable to do so, their units can account for them."

Active-duty Airmen, selected Reserve members, Department of the Air Force personnel, non appropriated fund civilian employees, Air Force contractors and family members affected by the wildfire in Colorado should log into AFPAAS and complete a needs assessment survey which tells their leaders they need help.

Airmen in the affected area must go to https://afpaas.af.mil, login, account for themselves and complete the needs assessment, if applicable. AFPAAS can also be accessed from the Air Force Portal, and the Air Force Personnel Center website at www.afpc.af.mil.

"This wildfire burned 40 to 60 homes after it broke out Tuesday and promoted the evacuation of approximately 2,300 homes," said Col. Michael Tillema, AFPC Operations Center Director. "Airmen need to become familiar with AFPAAS and ensure they can access the site if necessary before a disaster occurs."
