ROTC detachment command opportunities available Published June 12, 2013 By Debbie Gildea Air Force Personnel Center Public Affairs JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas -- Eligible line of the Air Force lieutenant colonels and lieutenant colonel-selects interested in Reserve Officer Training Corps detachment command opportunities have approximately one month to submit the statement of intent, via the Airman Development Plan, Air Force Personnel Center officials said today. Summer 2014 command opportunities are expected to open at more than 40 educational institutions, said Master Sgt. Curtis Reese, AFPC Special Utilization Officer Assignments superintendent. "Interested officers should not submit an application to Air Education and Training Command until they have been officially released from their career field assignment team," said Reese. "Applications are due to AETC by Aug. 31, so applicants will have ample time to meet that suspense." In addition to being an active duty line of the Air Force officer, applicants must have at least two years of retainability as of Aug. 1, 2014, and have three years on station by May 1, 2014 or be in must move status by summer 2014. Overseas officers must have a date eligible for return from overseas between May 1 and Sept. 30, 2014. Applicants must have a master's degree and superior performance record, as well. "The ROTC detachment commander is the first leader and commander most Air Force officers will follow, so criteria are stringent and standards are high," Reese said. "These men and women will be in the business of developing future warrior leaders and caring for Airmen." Applicants will be notified by March 2014 if they've been selected for consideration.
