Eligible weather lieutenant colonels, lieutenant colonel-selects and majors in the promotion zone in 2013 will be considered for command when the weather officer command board convenes in July, Air Force Personnel Center officials said.

Those identified as command candidates will be considered for weather squadron vacancies projected in 2014, as well as recruiting and training command opportunities, said Maj. Jimmy Odom, AFPC weather officer assignments chief.

Candidates must be core weather officers, and they must be nominated by their wing commander or equivalent. Nominees must be lieutenant colonels with a date of rank no earlier than April 1, 2010, lieutenant colonel-selects or majors in the promotion zone to lieutenant colonel in 2013. Interested officers must communicate their interest via a statement of intent through the Airman Development Plan. Endorsed statements of intent must reach AFPC by June 15, Odom said.

"All nominees who meet the board should exemplify leadership, integrity and professional competence," Odom said. "Command opportunities come with great responsibilities and only those officers who are ready for those responsibilities should be nominated."
