The calendar year 2014 intelligence squadron command board will convene in June to consider eligible officers for squadron command positions, Air Force Personnel Center officials said.

The board will identify candidates to fill projected Air Combat Command, Air Education and Training Command, Air Force Materiel Command, Air Force Special Operations Command, Air Force Space Command, Air Mobility Command, Air Force Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Agency and Special Operations Command 2014 vacancies. Candidates may also be selected for recruiting and training squadron command, said Maj Nicole Francis, AFPC intelligence officer assignments.

Candidates must be lieutenant colonels with an April 1, 2009 or later date of rank, or majors selected for lieutenant colonel during the calendar year 12A promotion board, said Francis.

Core intelligence, space and missile, weather, cyber, scientist, engineer and acquisition officers are eligible, but non-intelligence officers must be released by their assignment team before they apply.

Applicants must complete a statement of interest in their Airman Development Plan, accessible via the Air Force Portal or myPers website. Nominating officials must submit candidate applications to AFPC between April 5 and May 10, Francis said. An ADP SOI is not required for officers who do not want to compete for command.

"We typically have more candidates than projected or known vacancies, but that helps ensure we have quality candidates in case we have unexpected requirements," said Francis. "When nominating their officers, commanders should submit those officers who are exceptional leaders, have unimpeachable integrity, exhibit professional competence, and be able to motivate others."

Squadron commanders play a significant role in the success of an organization as mission leaders, advisors and mentors, so only those ready for the responsibility should be nominated, she explained.
