Airfield operations board to consider officers for command Published April 4, 2013 By Debbie Gildea Air Force Personnel Center Public Affairs JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas -- The airfield operations command candidate selection board will convene June 17 to select candidates for projected calendar year 2014 field grade squadron command vacancies, Air Force Personnel Center officials said. Candidates will also be considered for recruiting and training command opportunities. "Squadron commanders have significant direct impact on Airmen and the mission, so the board will look for candidates whose experience and actions illustrate that they are ready for increased responsibilities," said Maj. Gregg Potter, AFPC airfield operations officer assignments. Nominees' commanders have a significant role to play in the process. Because airfield operations officers are not required to compete for command, commanders should nominate those who truly exemplify the desired qualities, the major explained. "Nominees should have exceptional leadership and mentoring skills, be able to set the example through unquestioned integrity and professional competence, be able to motivate others and must demonstrate interest in and concern for their subordinates," he said. To be considered for airfield operations squadron command, candidates must be core airfield operations officers who are lieutenant colonels whose date of rank is no earlier than April 1, 2010, lieutenant colonel-selects, or majors in the promotion zone to lieutenant colonel in 2013. Majors and lieutenant colonels who are not in the promotion zone can apply for recruiting, combat communication/contingency response group and training squadron command opportunities, Potter said. Interested officers must submit a statement of intent via their Airman Development Plan, accessible online through the Air Force Portal secure site or the myPers website. The commander-endorsed SOI must reach AFPC by May 17. For complete eligibility requirements and application instructions, go to the myPers website at https://mypers.af.mil, and enter "PSDM 13-24" in the search window.
