Six lieutenant colonels and lieutenant colonel-selects have been chosen for weather squadron command in the United States and overseas, Air Force Personnel Center officials announced.

Command opportunities are afforded officers who have exhibited both strong leadership skills and interest in command, said Maj. Joseph Coughlin, AFPC assignment officer.

"The weather career field is relatively small, but filled with talented leaders, so opportunities to command are very competitive," Coughlin. "Selection for weather squadron command is definitely evidence of a successful career."

All officers on the squadron command candidates list are considered volunteers for worldwide command opportunities, including indeterminate temporary duty, Coughlin explained.

"Squadron commanders are integral to developing and sustaining our forces. Because they have such a huge impact on the future of the Air Force, they must be - and are - top tier," Coughlin said.
