Air Force Personnel Center officials here created a dedicated deployment cell in the Total Force Service Center-San Antonio to provide expedited personnel assistance and support to deployed active-duty members.

The new deployment cell includes six military personnelists and TFSC-SA contractors providing 24-hour, seven days a week support and assistance to deployed members on a host of personnel programs, said Capt. Dong Park, the TFSC-SA's transitions' branch chief.

"Since stand-up, our dedicated TFSC cell has directly assisted 160 deployers on the phone. We've also successfully centralized reenlistment processing for deployed enlisted Airmen," said Captain Park. "Additionally, we are fielding supplemental customer self-help computer resources at most Personnel Support for Contingency Operations sites to enable access to the Air Force personnel services website and the TFSC as a single entry point of service."

Lt. Col. Steven Zubowicz, AFPC's TFSC operations chief, said the deployment cell stood up in March, and initially assisted deployed members with processing reenlistments. Currently, the cell is also managing campaign medal updates and is also projected to assist with NATO medal updates for deployed members.

"Deployed Airmen face unique challenges in garnering personnel support and this cell will ensure that service to the warfighter remains a top priority for the TFSC and AFPC," said Colonel Zubowicz. "We work directly with the business process owners here at AFPC who provide the overarching guidance that we deliver to deployers."

Tech. Sgt. Jason Johnson, the TFSC's deployment cell NCO in charge, said the new cell helps expedite the amount of time it takes to accomplish personnel actions like reenlistment applications for deployed members.

"Individuals who did not project a reenlistment, or bring reenlistment documentation to their deployed location, would be able to project a reenlistment while they are deployed," said Sergeant Johnson. "They would need to coordinate with their PERSCO team, which would forward a personnel action request to us in the deployment cell. Then, we would process the documents here. Working with AFPC through the TFSC makes the coordination process more efficient."

Deployed members who need personnel assistance can call the TFSC at 800-525-0102, select active duty and press the pound key to reach the dedicated deployment cell. For more information on personnel services, visit the AFPERS website at https://gum-crm.csd.disa.mil.
