20 athletes selected for Warrior Games

Air Force officials recently announced the names of 20 athletes selected for Department of Defense's first-ever Warrior Games in Colorado Springs, Colo., May 10 - 14.

Wounded, ill and injured active duty, Guard and Reserve members, as well as retired personnel and veterans, from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, and Coast Guard will participate in Warrior Games hosted by the U.S. Olympic Committee's Paralympic Military Program at the Olympic Training Center.

Athletes for the 2010 Air Force team are:

Matthew Bilancia, formerly senior airman, Washington, D.C.
Retired Master Sgt. Kimberly Bradshaw, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Va.
Staff Sgt. Christopher D'Angelo, Malmstrom Air Force Base, Mont.
Tech. Sgt. Israel Del Toro, Lackland AFB, Texas
Staff Sgt. Marc Esposito, Pope AFB, N.C.
Retired Staff Sgt. Jeanné Goldy-Sanitate, Medford, N.J.
Senior Airman James Gray, Lackland AFB, Texas
Crystal Jacobson, formerly airman, Minot AFB, N.D.
Tech. Sgt. Crystal Lovato, U.S. Air Force Academy, Colo.

"Congratulations on your selection as an Air Force team member for the 2010 Warrior Games," said Lt. Gen. Richard Newton, deputy chief of staff for manpower, personnel, and services from the Pentagon, in a congratulations letter to the athletes.

"Your selection is indicative of your personal achievements in your recovery process. You are an inspiration for all of us," General Newton said.

Events include shooting, swimming, archery, sitting volleyball, cycling, track, wheelchair basketball, discus, and shot put.

In addition to each event, there will be an Ultimate Warrior competition in a pentathlon format and service team scoring for a rotating Chairman's Cup.
