AFROTC detachment command opportunities available Published May 7, 2015 By Shelly Petruska Air Force Personnel Center Public Affairs JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas -- Eligible active duty line of the Air Force lieutenant colonels and lieutenant colonel-selects interested in Summer 2016 Reserve Officer Training Corps detachment command opportunities have until May 27, 2015 to request consideration for these positions. Command opportunities are expected to open at more than 50 educational institutions, said Sundy Muniz, AFPC special duty assignments branch. "The ROTC detachment commander is the first leader and commander most Air Force officers will follow, so criteria are stringent and standards are high," Muniz said. "These men and women will be in the business of developing future warrior leaders and caring for Airmen." Officers may request consideration for an AFROTC detachment commander opportunity by completing a statement of intent with senior rater endorsement through their Airmen Development Plan. Applicants must be active duty Air Force line officers with two years' time on station as of September 30, 2016, or be in a mandatory move status during the summer of 2016, or eligible for return from overseas January-May 2016. "Applicants must be released by the AFPC career field manager before they can submit their application," said Muniz. "They will be notified whether or not they have been released to compete for command opportunities in June." Candidates will be notified if they are selected for command consideration in September and placements will be complete by March 2016.
