AF names ROTC detachment commander candidates Published Oct. 3, 2014 By Debbie Gildea Air Force Personnel Center Public Affairs JOINT BASE SAN ANTONIO-RANDOLPH, Texas -- The Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps detachment commander selection board named 53 lieutenant colonels and lieutenant colonel-selects as candidates for projected 2015 vacancies, Air Force Personnel Center officials announced. Command opportunities like this are highly sought, according to Sundy Muniz, International and InterService Exchange, ROTC and World Class Athlete Program assignment chief. "ROTC detachment commanders are the first active duty leaders many students encounter and as such, they have significant influence on our future leaders," said Muniz. "ROTC commanders lead and mold future Air Force leaders at a critical time in their education and development, so it's essential that highly motivated, strong leaders are assigned to command these detachments." Because there are fewer projected vacancies than command candidates, not all candidates will be matched to a command. However, candidates who are not matched to a command position will be placed on an alternate list and will be considered for unprogrammed vacancies.
