Senior Airman Ronald A. Murray, 786th Civil Engineer Squadron, Ramstein Air Base, Germany, and Tech. Sgt. Paul H. Grow, 6th Maintenance Group, MacDill Air Force Base, Florida, are the Air Force nominees for the 6th Annual Scouting Salutes the Military Award.

Sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America, the award recognizes an enlisted member, grade E-4 through E-6, from each branch of the military who has displayed outstanding military service, performed a heroic deed or demonstrated extraordinary commitment to community service, and who has an existing or recent connection to scouting.

Murray volunteered 3,500 hours, leading 60 events and assisting another 200 in support of nine organizations that provide community services throughout the Kaiserslautern Military Community. As Troop 156 assistant scoutmaster, he guided 56 scouts through 85 rank advancements and provided direct oversight of 25 high-risk youth activities spanning three different countries.

Grow deployed a total of 384 days to the Middle East and Europe supporting operations Enduring Freedom, New Dawn and Odyssey Dawn, as well as countless overseas contingency operations. While at his home station, he served as the scoutmaster and lead charter member for the new, rapidly expanding Boy Scouts of America Troop 199.

A selection committee from the National Capital Area Council staff and volunteers will review the all services' nominations and select the final award recipient.
