The Vigilant Eagle board convened in May and selected 86 candidates of 144 eligible officers. According to Maj. Joe Clemmer, space officer assignments team, the selection process was very competitive. "Officers' records and duty histories were examined for demonstrated leadership, leadership potential and professional development," said Clemmer. In addition, the board nominated seven members to AETC for training and recruiting squadron command opportunities. Those who were not matched for a command position will remain on the eligible candidate list and will be considered for unanticipated opportunities as they arise. "Candidates who were not matched to one of the space or AETC squadron vacancies will be eligible for other worldwide squadron command opportunities, including 365-day extended deployment, as well as wing chief of safety positions," Clemmer said.
