SERVICEMEMBER'S GROUP LIFE INSURANCE

SGLI

SGLI/SOES

Servicemembers’ Group Life Insurance (SGLI) is a program of low-cost group life insurance for servicemembers on active duty, ready reservists, members of the National Guard, cadets in the Air Force Academy, and members of the Reserve Officer Training Corps.

SOES is the Servicemembers' Group Life Insurance (SGLI) On-Line Enrollment System. It replaces the paper-based SGLI/Family SGLI (FSGLI) enrollment, maintains elections and beneficiary information, and provides 24/7 self-service access to SGLI information. SGLI provides insurance coverage to eligible members of the active and reserve components. SOES centralizes SGLI/FSGLI data into one authoritative system capable of providing consistent SGLI/FSGLI information to members and their leadership.

SOES is available through DMDC’s milConnect web application.  After signing in, click on “SOES” under the “Benefits” tab.

COVERAGE

The maximum amount of SGLI coverage you may have is $500,000. You may elect to be insured for lesser amounts in increments of $50,000. If you choose to decline or reduce your SGLI coverage, you must log into the Servicemember's Online Election System (SOES) via milConnect. Beginning July 1, 2025, monthly premium rates for the SGLI program will be discounted.

The SGLI premium discount lowers the rate from $0.06 per $1,000 of coverage to $0.05 per $1,000 of coverage. Therefore, the new premium for the maximum amount of SGLI coverage of $500,000 will be $25.00 per month, plus $1.00 for Traumatic Injury Protection (TSGLI) coverage. All active duty, Reserve, and National Guard Service members with active SGLI coverage will automatically receive the premium discount.

The lower premium will be reflected on insureds Service members’ Leave and Earning Statement (LES) and notifications will be posted on pay system messaging as well as in the SGLI Online Enrollment System (SOES).
