The Air Force’s Personnel Center is comprised of nine directorates, the Department of the Air Force Selection Board Secretariat and Special Staff, each managing key programs in support of global Department of the Air Force personnel operations for military and civilian Airmen and Guardians, families and retirees.
The Directorate of Staff (DS) is responsible for infrastructure and sustainment, enterprise information management, security, safety, and facilities support. The Directorate of Staff also provides workforce requirements and human capital management to include civilian human resources, manpower and organizational analysis, and training/professional development. Additionally, this directorate centrally manages Air Force surveys, strategic research and assessment, and the retrieval of data from Air Force Personnel Systems and analysis of that data as requested for all levels of the Department of the Air Force (DAF) as well as non-DoD agencies.
The Directorate of Strategic Communication and Engagement (CM) manages all matters relating to internal and external communications, public outreach, institutional identity and reputation, communication planning, and other related activities. This directorate is responsible for the Public Affairs program that informs global audiences about personnel programs and policies through the AFPC News Service, AFPC Public Web, AFPC Social Media platforms, Media Relations, and Community Engagement capabilities. This directorate is also responsible for special projects, speech writing, briefing development, and conference organization through the Commander’s Action Group, as well as distinguished visitor reception for general and flag officers and civilian equivalents, foreign dignitaries, and other high-level Department of Defense (DoD) and U.S. Government officials and community leaders.
The Directorate of Technology and Information (DPO) is the technology arm of AFPC. This directorate enables Digital Transformation through Enterprise Architecture services, requirements management, application configuration, AFPC IT asset management, and data visualization services for AFPC and key DAF stakeholders.
The Directorate of Personnel Support (DPS) provides direct personnel services supporting Airmen, Guardians, civilian employees and their families. This directorate operates a 24/7 customer service center providing routine, repeatable and transactional support through knowledge management and customer contact. Additionally, this directorate processes requests for personnel documents from members, the Department of Veterans Affairs or third parties consistent with existing laws and policies. The directorate’s field support activity serves as AFPC‘s face to personnel activities in the field.
The Directorate of Civilian Personnel Operations (DPC) executes policies and procedures for Department of the Air Force civilian personnel programs. This directorate provides centralized civilian classification services to commanders, civilian personnel flights, managers, supervisors, and employees. Additionally, this directorate performs end-to-end staffing services, talent acquisition planning/analyses, and implements civilian development programs.
The Directorate of Military Personnel Operations (DPM) executes policies and procedures for military personnel programs across the Department of the Air Force, including career management of military members below the grades of O-6/E-9 beginning with commissioning or technical training and continuing until separation/retirement. This directorate is responsible for military assignments, workforce development, and joint officer management. Additionally, this directorate executes policy and guidance to conduct enterprise-wide Force Generation and Readiness functions supporting global combatant commander requirements through the Air Force Force Generation cycle.
The Directorate of Personnel Programs (DPP) interprets and implement policies; develops guidance, standards and processes; coordinates and deploys standards, systems, programs, procedures and actions for the Department of the Air Force military and civilian personnel programs portfolios. Additionally, this directorate provides accurate and timely military pay services for the Department of the Air Force through maintenance and certification of all military payroll, voucher balancing, pre- and post-payday auditing, and line of accounting reconciliation.
The Directorate of Airman and Family Care (DPF) provides care and operational support to Active Duty, Reserve, Guard, civilians, retirees, and their respective families. This directorate oversees and implements numerous programs for Airmen, Guardians and family members including Military and Family Readiness, Integrated Resiliency (including sexual assault, suicide, and interpersonal violence prevention initiatives) the Exceptional Assignment Program, Retiree Services, the AF Disability Program, Medical Continuation, Casualty and Missing Persons, and the Air Force Wounded Warrior Program (AFW2).
The Selection Board Secretariat (PB) administers Department of the Air Force officer and senior NCO selection boards to include pre-board and post-board support, officer promotion boards to the ranks of Captain through Major General, ANG federal recognition, MSgt, SMSgt and CMSgt evaluation, selective early retirement, reduction-in-force, retention and special boards, as required.
The Special Staff (SS) serves as principle advisors to the AFPC commander and staff through the Financial Management (FM), Judge Advocate (JA), Inspector General (IG), Orderly Room (CCQ), and Command Section Information Management (CCEA) functions, as well as the Air National Guard (CCG) and Air Force Reserve (CCR) advisors.
